About Stephen T. Duncombe
Personal History

An Irish-born American, I grew up in New York City with summers on Long Island and Nantucket where I learned to sail. Graduating from the Millbrook School in Millbrook, New York and Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin, I still spent summers on Nantucket around boats and the marinas.

After graduating with a degree in English, I spent 25 years in the insurance industry in upstate New York. During this career, I created and underwrote yacht insurance programs for a large multi-line insurance company. While living in the Syracuse area, I owned and maintained a number of power and sail boats.

In 1996, I moved to the Lake Norman area of North Carolina, continuing to sail and power boat while developing and growing a successful restaurant chain based on New York pizza.

In 2005, I left the daily operations of the restaurants and moved to New Bern, NC to pursue a career enabling me to focus on my affection for boats and the water. My credentials follow.
